The Chapel of St John of Matha (Matahara)

The chapel is located in a forest, east of Oštrobradići village. Ruins of an earlier church,  so-called mirine, date back to the 15th century. A shrine with a painting of 12th century French priest St John of Matha, was later found. He had dedicated his life to freeing slaves.  This is the origin of the name  of the later 1913 chapel, funded by Croatian immigrants from the USA.  The roof was erected during the restoration of 2014. The right lateral wall,  as a vow to St Nicholas, features a 19th century votive painting of Antun Maškulin  and commemorates the terrible storm that he had survived in the vicinity of Venice.
